FIDX Working Group Meeting Minutes

March 7, 2006

On March 7, 2006, five furniture manufacturers and suppliers attended a formal (face to face) FIDX working group meeting at the AHFA office in High Point, NC. The meeting was also attended via the Internet by ten participants. The meeting started at 1pm EST and the agenda is shown below.

No attendees reported participation in the Uniform Code Council's Global Standards Management Process since the last formal meeting in October 2005.

Mike Overholt and John Edmunds reviewed a recommended Load Tender Acceptance (990) schema. It was agreed that Mike will coordinate with Ben Keller to assure the schema is consistent with the Bill of Lading schema and present the 990 schema for formal acceptance at the next FIDX meeting.

Jeff Baker reviewed the schemas needed to handle the transactions associated with product warranties. It was agreed that the following six schemas will be needed:

  • Registration
  • Registration Acknowledgement
  • Claim (or Credit) Request
  • Claim (or Credit) Acknowledgement
  • Service Request
  • Service Acknowledgement

Jeff then reviewed a recommended Registration schema. It was agreed that Jeff will coordinate with Mike Overholt and Geoff Mack to assure the schema is consistent with other related schemas. At the next meeting, Jeff will present the Registration schema for formal acceptance and he will review a proposed Registration Acknowledgement schema.

David Purvis reviewed the FIDX schema naming convention and it was agreed that all schema developers should conform to that convention. It was also agreed that all schema developers should maintain the proper text case (upper/lower) for their schemas. Lisa Grummett requested and it was agreed that the association of FIDX schemas to ANSI X.12 standard numbers be maintained.

Ron Martell, Mike Overholt and Rob Alexander discussed the need for consistent terminology in product catalogs to assure it is easy for consumers to search for products and industry participants to analyze and report sales data. It was agreed that a terminology standard would not be developed but rather a list of recommended terminology should be made available via FIDX.org. Ron reviewed a recommended terminology list for non-configured products and he, Mike and Rob will coordinate to refine and expand the list and post it on FIDX.org in the future.

Manoj Nigam discussed web services and the potential need for FIDX standards to handle web services in the future. It was agreed that standards are not currently needed but Manoj, Mike Overholt and Geoff Mack will monitor that area in the future.

Prior to the meeting, Dwight Ball announced that Rose Furniture will not be able to host the FIDX.org web site in the future. The FIDX Committee will formally thank Dwight and Rose Furniture for their contributions to FIDX over the last six years. Dave Purvis volunteered to host the web site at AHFA and that offer was unanimously accepted.

The promotion of FIDX standards in the furniture industry was discussed. Dave Purvis reported the next AHFA newsletter will promote the standards and Jeff Baker reported that the NHFA IT Committee will discuss a promotion plan next week at the All Industry conference in Orlando. Ron Martell described MicroD’s “Fast FIDX” program under which initial FIDX standard product catalogs will be published for 10 manufacturers at no cost.

The next meeting will be an on-line meeting on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 1pm EST. The meeting adjourned at 3:30pm.

Submitted by Ron Martell, FIDX Steering Committee Chairman.
